TWO OLD TESTAMENT FEASTS—PROPHETIC OF JESUS

Both feasts began in Egypt to free the Israelites from Egyptian slavery.

passover

THE PASSOVER: The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt: "This month (Abib) is to be the first month of your year. On the 10th day of this month … each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household. The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. Take care of them until the 14th day of the month, when all the people must slaughter them at twilight. Then you are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn—both men and animals—and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you."
Exodus 12:1-3, 6-7

THE LORD'S FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD begins on the 15th day of that month. (The 15th day began at 6 PM of the 14th day.) "For seven days you must eat bread without yeast. On the first day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work." (the special Sabbath) Leviticus 23:6-7

When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him, he said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world."
John 1:29
Regarding the unleavened bread, Jesus said in John 6:53-58, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is real food and My blood is real drink. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread that came down from heaven."
How do we eat Jesus' body and drink His blood? Jesus said to Satan in Matthew 4:4, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." It is called faith.

THE NEW COVENANT (1 CORINTHIANS 11:23-26)
Jesus breaking bread

For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me. For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes."

Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him. Hebrews 9:28 May we be found ready and waiting for Jesus when He returns!

THE DIRECTOR'S CORNER
As I look outside, I see a sure sign of spring—leaves falling from the trees. Our oak trees modestly hang on to some of their leaves until they are sure new ones are ready to appear. It means raking two times a year but we appreciate their shade and beauty. We even have a group of young people from Michigan coming this week to graciously offer their time and energy in yard work, painting, and other helps. Springtime gives us a little taste of the 5th day of creation as we see and hear new birds each week coming back north. It's a season of the year that makes it easier to hope, and work at good change.
The reroofing of the old camp house was completed this past month (in just five days.) We thank God for the able crew that did the work and the source of money to pay for it.
We have some yearly events coming up in our club program: two Saturdays of Awana games for 3rd-8th, and K-2nd, and the year-end activity in early May. Thank you for praying for this work and for backing us financially. Pray that we will keep comparing all we do with Jesus' teachings and operate in His strength.
