WE NEED JESUS AND HIS WORD
JESUS, THE BREAD OF LIFE
"I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me will never go hungry, and he who believes in Me will never be thirsty." "I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If a man eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." "Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." (John 6:35, 51, 54)
OUR LIVING SOUL NEEDS THE BREAD OF LIFE
"And the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (eternal life), and man became a living soul." (Genesis 2:7) Jesus was talking about our living soul, that part of man that is invisible and spiritual. "There is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding." (Job 32:8) That is why Jesus said, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4) It is our living soul that needs Jesus, the Bread of Life, and a daily intake of the Word of God.
TWO TESTIMONIES
"I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food." (Job 23:12b)
"When Your words came, I ate them, they were the joy and rejoicing of my heart." (Jeremiah 15:16)
TWO FOUNDATIONS
"I will show you what he is like who comes to Me and hears My words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears My words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete." (Luke 6:46-49)
ONLY ONE WAY TO HEAVEN
Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?" (John 14:6; 11:25, 26)

THE DIRECTOR'S CORNER
We have no children's clubs this first week of April while they are on spring break, so we have a chance to step back and take a look at what's happening. The group that somehow grabs my attention first is the K-2nd grade boys. We've been having more than usual this year--as many as 15 energetic little boys on Monday evenings. I'm being nice when I use the word "energetic." Several are new and haven't learned "the ropes" yet. Those of us working with them find ourselves emotionally exhausted after an hour and a half, and wanting to banish half of them.
Recently, however, I came across the story of when Jesus needed to show His disciples what serving really meant. He took a little child in His arms and said, "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in My name welcomes Me." Behavior was not a qualifier. So what does "welcome" mean? I must make room for each one of them--push back the furniture of my comfort and expectations and open wide the door.
As challenging as it is to tell the Bible story to this group of boys, it has been encouraging. More than wiggling is going on. After the nativity story (when God became a man), one 2nd-grader commented, "So that little baby in the box made everything around Him?"
Believing like little children is another thing Jesus wants us to do.
