JOHN THE BAPTIST AND THE LORD JESUS
BOTH ARRIVED AS MIRACLE BABIES, PRE-NAMED AND PRE-COMMISSIONED
In the time of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord's commandments and regulations blamelessly. But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well along in years.
One day when Zechariah was on duty at the altar in the temple, an angel of the Lord appeared to him saying, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth. Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God." When Zechariah named his son, he was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, "You, my child, will go before the Lord to prepare the way for Him." (Luke 1)
THE BIRTH OF JESUS
In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you." Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High."
Before they were married, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save His people from their sins."
Joseph and Mary had to go to Bethlehem to pay their taxes, and while they were there, the time came for the baby to be born. She gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night. And angel of the Lord appeared to them and said, "Do not be afraid, I bring you tidings of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you, He is Christ the Lord." (Luke 1, 2; Matthew 1)
BOTH FULFILLED THEIR COMMISSIONS
Both babies grew up to be men and fulfilled the commissions the Lord had given them. John faithfully preached, "Repent! For the kingdom of God is at hand." Jesus died on the cross, paying for our sins. He was buried, and rose again the third day. Whoever believes in Him has eternal life.
The messages are still the same: "Repent from sin, and believe on Jesus."
Whoever believes on Jesus has eternal life. Do you believe?

THE DIRECTOR'S CORNER
"What you see is what you get" only seems to apply to babies and older people that have given up pretending. The rest of us have trouble being truly consistent. We like to put our "best foot forward," change our veneer to impress who we're with, blend in like chameleons.
We've noticed for some time how hard it is for our young people to let God's truth permeate the other compartments of their life (school, home, public, private). They sound good while they're here at Camp. The Apostle James says salt water and sweet water can't come from the same spring. The one with the most Bible knowledge shouldn't be the one with the worst behavior at school. Is the Bible's standard of behavior so drastically different from the student's that they see no application to their real world? Are we as leaders too far away from where they are?
Pray with us that we'll get to know the children better and discover elements and examples from their lives to illustrate God's Truth ... like Jesus did.
