SOWING AND REAPING
"Do not be deceived. God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction." Galatians 6:7,8a
"The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God." Galatians 5:19-21
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23 "The one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life." Galatians 6:8b
A MAN REAPS WHAT HE SOWS
One of the most gruesome examples of this in Scripture is found in Judges 1:5-7. "It was there that they found Adoni-Bezek and fought against him, putting to rout the Canaanites and Perizzites. Adoni-Bezek fled, but they chased him and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and big toes. Then Adoni-Bezek said, 'Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off have picked up scraps under my table. Now God has paid me back for what I did to them.' They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there."
WHATEVER WE SOW WE REAP
A man by the name of Elimelech, his wife Naomi, and two sons left Israel and went to Moab because there was a famine in Israel. The two sons married women from Moab: Ruth and Orpah. In time, Elimelech and his sons died, leaving all three women widows. Naomi decided to go back to Israel and suggested that Ruth and Orpah stay in Moab and find other husbands. Orpah stayed, but Ruth clung to Naomi and said, "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me." Ruth 1:16, 17
Choosing to go with Naomi, Ruth cared for her mother-in-law and God rewarded her. Boaz became Ruth's kinsman-redeemer and married her. They had a son, Obed, who became the father of Jesse, who was the father of King David. By "sowing" the choice she had, she "reaped" a place in the genealogy of Jesus.
WHAT ARE YOU SOWING?
Let us sow to please the Spirit, and from the Spirit, reap eternal life. "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." Galatians 6:8b-10

THE DIRECTOR'S CORNER
Our summer camp weeks have come and gone. Thank you for your prayers and gifts, and for those of you that gave of your time and energy. We trust God for good fruit.
We always want to be open to opportunities, especially during the summer months, to spend individual time with the children and young people around us. We can learn from them, too.
A couple weeks ago Becky was "baby sitting" a couple of boys for a day. Wanting to give her a little break, I volunteered to entertain the three-year-old for an hour or so. There was a little job I wanted to do and I thought maybe he could help me--the bugs had been collecting in the light fixture globes of the chapel. We brought the shop vac to the back of the chapel. I had the job of taking each globe down and taking it back where he had the job of turning the vacuum on and sucking the bugs out. When I brought the first globe back, he just studied the bugs and I finally told him to turn the switch on. The second globe the same thing happened. By the third globe, I'm thinking, "It's the same kind of bugs in every globe and none of them are even moving," but he still wanted to look at them. I decided not to urge him to turn it on, and just wait. Sure enough, after a few thoughtful seconds he reached for the switch. Taking time to discover--I'm glad some little people still do it. Who am I to cut short any genuine wonder of the fascinating earth we live on. (I'm thinking of more than dead bugs.) If the Creator didn't care if we discovered Him, imagine how drab and simple this earth would be.
