WISDOM IS NOT ENOUGH TO LIVE A GODLY LIFE
GOD'S RULES FOR KINGS IN THE PROMISED LAND
"Be sure to appoint over you the king the Lord chooses. He must be from among your own brothers. Do not place a foreigner over you. He must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the Lord has told you, 'You are not to go back that way again.' He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold. When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the priests, who are Levites. It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his brothers and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel." (Deuteronomy 17:14-20)
SOLOMON'S BEGINNING
"God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the men of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt." (1 Kings 4:29, 30)
SOLOMON'S DISOBEDIENCE
Solomon accumulated 12,000 horses, imported from Egypt. He had so much gold and silver that he made silver as common as stones. (see 1 Kings 10:26-29) "He had 700 wives and 300 concubines, and his wives led him astray. As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God." (1 Kings 11:3, 4)
GOD'S JUDGMENT
So the Lord said to Solomon, "Since this is your attitude and you have not kept My covenant and My decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates. Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son. Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David My servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen." (1 Kings 11:11-13)
MORE THAN WISDOM
It takes more than wisdom to live a godly life. It take a heart devoted to God and absolute obedience to His every word. "Be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men (or women) and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen." (2 Peter 3:17, 18)

THE DIRECTOR'S CORNER
For the past several months Becky has been taking a correspondence course to complete her teaching certificate. It's a math course. Several times she has mentioned that she wished it were in an actual classroom with an actual teacher who could hear and understand her questions. It's a bit like trying to get real help in a big-box store or becoming accountable to a TV church. There's that caring, ongoing relationship that's often missing. The goal in this fast-paced world seems to be "more for less," the least expensive for the most profit.
I'm learning that I need to get rid of that efficiency-thinking when it comes to helping people into God's kingdom. Relationships take time. People need to see my watch off my wrist and in my pocket. Everyone's experience and baggage are unique, and there's usually benefit for both in one-on-one times of talking and listening.
Let's ask God for daily opportunities to be available to Him in the lives of others.
