A VISIT TO ATHENS
Paul the apostle said, “Men of Athens (America)! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship (money, sports, pleasure, possessions), I even found one with this inscription: To The Unknown God. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth, and does not live in temples built by hands. And He is not served by human hands, as if He needed anything, because He Himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. For in Him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets said, ‘We are His offspring.’ Therefore, since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the Divine Being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by man’s design and skill. In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent.” (Acts 17:22-30)
“For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising Him from the dead.” When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered. A few men became followers of Paul and believed. (Acts 17:31, 32)
Today people don’t sneer. They just enact laws to separate men from God. It is ignorantly called “separation of church and state.” They are just rushing ahead of Almighty God. He has already recorded the day He will do the separating. “It is appointed unto men once to die and after that the judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27) Did you notice in the verse above who will be the judge on the appointed day? “And whosoever’s name was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of burning sulfur.” (Revelation 20:11-15, 21:8)
BUT THE DAY OF GOD’S GRACE, LOVE, AND MERCY IS STILL HERE
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes on Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16, 17)
Jesus said to Martha, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God who was to come into the world.” (John 11:23-27)
Do you, who are reading this, believe in the Lord Jesus and His great salvation, or are you waiting for the separation? It’s the choice you have to make. “Now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2)

THE DIRECTOR'S CORNER
Perspective. To the postal employee the letter in his hand is just another piece of mail to quickly scan and send on its way. But to the person receiving and opening that letter, it could be an encouraging note from a friend that brings tears of relief and a heavy heart lifted.
Several weeks ago one of our club openings was delayed a little bit because a couple of the vans hadn’t arrived yet. When they did come, the drivers were understandably upset about the kids or parents that made them late. (We as adults can get edgy and disoriented when plans and schedules change, and it’s easy to take aim at the culprits.) The club opening got underway, and from the back of the room, looking at the rows of heads, a different perspective suddenly struck me. These were not program disrupters—these are all very precious in God’s sight. It’s not about us. It’s not just a 2-3 hour routine that we manage to get through. It’s about a Father who earnestly yearns for every living human to reach for His love and grace.
When a little first grader reaches for my hand, do I consciously also reach for my Father’s hand and communicate His love? Am I so regulated by programs and tradition that I miss God’s perspective? May God help us to habitually exchange our perspective for His.
BWC’S BIBLE QUIZ DAY
On January 29, we had our annual Bible Quiz Day. The children who have memorized the most Bible verses were the ones chosen for the teams. Each team consisted of 1-3 members who competed against other teams in their grade. The quiz had 3 formats: speed quizzing (the first person who jumps up answers the question); huddle quizzing (the team confers and comes up with an answer) and multiple choice quizzing (a question is asked with 3 possible answers; quizzers choose which answer they think is correct.)
