ABRAHAM WAS TESTED
Genesis 22:1-14
God said to him, "Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied. Then God said, "Take your son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."
Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you." (see Hebrews 11:17-19)
Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, "Father?" "Yes, my son?" Abraham replied. "The fire and wood are here," Isaac said, "but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" Abraham answered, "God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." And the two of them went on together. When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied. "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from Me your son, your only son."
Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place "The Lord will provide." And to this day it is said:
"ON THE MOUNTAIN OF THE LORD IT WILL BE PROVIDED."
Many years later, the Lord Jesus Christ climbed that mountain (under guard) and by crucifixion, He became the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. (John 1:29) "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." (John 3:16-18)
What we do with Jesus determines where we will spend eternity: heaven or hell. It's our choice.

THE DIRECTOR'S CORNER
I'd like to fill you in a little on our Teen Club--our Thursday evening event for high school boys and girls in the area. We average a dozen or more each week and we've enjoyed some serious studies and good fun together. We start the evening with a group time to introduce the study subject, then divide into 4 or 5 groups for 45 minutes. This year we've learned about some good people in the Bible (Daniel and his friends, Mary, Lydia) and some topics about peer pressure and staying on the right path. The ending activity is either a group game or some gym floor time. Once a month we'll have a Bible quizzing session with questions they have written.
Most of the students this year have been quite regular in attendance, and for the most part, open to serious learning. One evening recently they divided into two teams for volleyball (the boys would much rather have played basketball) and played several rounds. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves with no one feeling inferior. Watching them, I was happy that we could offer these young people some good clean fun in a safe environment.
On the way home, a boy who was new that night mentioned how good the evening had been. Even when things don't always go as hoped, we're grateful for this place, and the chances to live out and teach God's ways to a needy generation.
Thank you for your encouragement.
THANK YOU FOR PRAYING WITH US
Realizing more and more the truth of Jesus’ statement in the context of the Vine and the branches imagery in John 15: “without me you can do nothing,” we would like to give you an overview of the ministries of Bible Witness Camp. We need your prayer support, asking God to keep us close to his heart, allowing Jesus to work through us by his Holy Spirit to produce eternal fruit, evidenced by changed lives.
SUNDAYS ALL YEAR ROUND:
• Sunday School Classes for all ages—eleven teachers would appreciate your prayers for our own preparation and teaching; a special concern currently is behavior in the Jr. High Boys’ class.
• Morning Worship Service
• Primary Church
OCTOBER–APRIL AFTER SCHOOL—volunteers from our own congregation and the Disciplers (student-led group) from Olivet Nazarene University help make the club ministry happen.
JUNE AND JULY—SUMMER CAMPS
Attending Awana Clubs and fulfilling the requirements earns the students a free week of camp. Currently we have two weeks of overnight camps and 3 weeks of day camps each summer.
SATURDAYS SEPTEMBER – MAY
• Women’s Bible Study twice a month
• Carpentry/Home Repair Mentoring
OTHER MINISTRIES throughout the year include:
